Nationwide Free Rabies Vaccination Campaign Launches for Stray Dogs

The General Authority for Veterinary Services has launched a one-week nationwide campaign to vaccinate stray dogs against rabies free of charge, with veterinary directorates carrying out immunisation across all governorates from November 1st, 2026.

Dr Mohamed Saad, Chairman of the General Authority for Veterinary Services, said the campaign is intended to strengthen preventive immunisation and veterinary control measures while supporting the national strategy to eliminate rabies by 2030.

Veterinary committees will continue vaccination activities throughout the week using approved rabies vaccines, with teams focusing on priority areas and coordinating with relevant authorities. The campaign also includes public guidance on safe interaction with dogs and the role of vaccination in reducing transmission risks between animals and humans.

The campaign is being implemented under the Law on Regulating Possession of Dangerous Animals and Dogs No. 29 of 2023 and its executive regulations issued under Prime Ministerial Decision No. 1731 of 2025.

The authority also urged members of the public to avoid unsafe interactions with stray dogs, report bite incidents and seek immediate medical care at the nearest health facility if bitten, while notifying the relevant veterinary authorities.
