World's First Commercial Air Taxi Vertiport Certified in Dubai
Located beside Dubai International Airport, the VDX vertiport is expected to handle up to 170,000 passengers annually once services begin.
One day, your ride to the airport could begin with take-off rather than a traffic jam. That future just moved a step closer. The world's first purpose-built commercial vertiport for electric air taxi operations has been certified in Dubai, clearing the VDX facility for future commercial service as the emirate's primary hub for urban air mobility.
Certified by the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority, the vertiport was developed by Skyports Infrastructure and is located adjacent to Dubai International Airport. Three additional vertiports are currently under development in partnership with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority.
According to the General Civil Aviation Authority, certification followed a comprehensive assessment of the facility's infrastructure, operational procedures, safety management systems, emergency preparedness and compliance with aviation regulations. The authority said the regulatory framework required to safely operate commercial electric air taxis is now in place, supporting the objectives of We the UAE 2031 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
The four-storey VDX vertiport spans approximately 3,100 square metres and features two dedicated take-off and landing pads, rapid charging facilities for electric aircraft and passenger processing infrastructure. Once commercial services begin, the facility is expected to accommodate up to 170,000 passengers each year.
