Egyptian photographer and videographer, Dexter Navy has recently collaborated with American producer and rapper André 3000 in shooting the cover for his debut solo album, ‘New Blue Sun’. Known for being one half of the famed rapper duo Outkast, André 3000 has returned to the scene 17 years later with an entirely instrumental eight-track album centred on woodwinds, which reads ‘WARNING: NO BARS’ on its vinyl version.

Crafted under the guidance of California producer and percussionist Carlos Niño, the album boasts an ensemble of accomplished musicians like Mia Doi Todd, Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina, Deantoni Parks, Matthewdavid, V.C.R, Diego Gaeta, and Jesse Peterson. Each of the eight tracks on this production possesses its own uniqueness, and exhibits a diverse range of live samples, synthesiser notes, chimes and cymbals.

Dexter’s cover for the solo album is a beautiful nod to the instrumental melodies that guide the album, centering André 3000 in mid-movement holding a flute.

Hailing from London, England, Dexter Navy is not only an artist but also a film director and photographer. Following his studies in London, he ventured into directing Grammy-nominated music videos, cultivating a deep passion for feature films by immersing himself in every facet of the industry. Navy's artistic sensibility is influenced by his Egyptian and English heritage, encouraging him to seamlessly blend the realms of art, craft, and design.

Navy has gained recognition for directing visually striking and innovative music videos for various artists. Some of his notable collaborations include work with musicians like A$AP Rocky, directing his most renowned music videos such as ‘LSD’ and ‘Kids Turned Out Fine’.

Dexter’s artistic endeavours are not limited to the West, as his frequent collaborations with local Egyptian creatives has birthed some of his most unique works such as his campaigns with Amina Muaddi, Cactus Plant Flea Market and Dior Tears, amongst others.
