Introducing this Year’s Eurovision Winner the Moroccan-Swedish Loreen
With this, Loreen became the first-ever female artist to win Eurovision twice
Last Saturday, the Moroccon-Swedish singer Loreen made history as the first female artist to win Eurovision twice.
Eurovision, held every year since its inception in 1956, is the world’s longest-running annual international televised music competition which rewards European participants along with a few international ones, for the artistic talents and original productions they bring to the stage. This year, on May 14th, at the 67th edition of the Eurovision, which was held at the Scouse city, Liverpool, Loreen conquered 36 challengers with a dazzling performance of her song ‘Tattoo’.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden to Moroccan-Amazigh parents, Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaoui made her first appearance on the popular music TV competition ‘Idol’ in 2004. However, her ultimate breakthrough in the music industry came later in 2005, with her first single ‘Snake’.
At this Eurovision 2023, the 39-year-old pop star stole the hearts of the audience and jury alike, wooing them with her stunning delivery of Tattoo. The song, which was originally composed by Loreen, won the coveted contest with a grand total of 583 points.
In 2013, Loreen was appointed as the ambassador of the Swedish Committe for Afghanistan, and was popular for calling Azerbaijan out for their several repeated human rights breaches. This was right before she collected her trophy as a winner of the Eurovision 2012.
