Maadi Town Mafia’s enigmatic rappers FL EX and Husayn are back at it with a new track and music video, ‘MESAMA3EEN’, channelling the defiant energy they’ve been known for since their recent rise to fame.
The tight-knit team behind Maadi Town Mafia (MTM) have been consistent with both their collaborators and vision and with their neighbourhood as a constant backdrop to their videos. The video was directed by Khalid Ibrahim, who also brought the ‘SHAYATEEN’ and ‘LOGAN’ videos to life, amassing over four million views.
Ibrahim manages to once again compliment the artists’ in-your-face personas through his DIY visual frames. Embedded with slang terminologies and drill sonic aesthetics that have become FL EX’s signature sound, combine with Husayn’s flaunty performance to create a track and video packed with energy. With a fast-paced tempo consistent throughout the video, FL EX and Huysan are surrounded by their crew, ensuing chaos, and owning the streets as per their motto. The crew does, however, include a disclaimer at the beginning of the video, assuring viewers that any “hints” of violence are staged.
‘MESAMA3EEN’ comes within a three-track EP, ‘MESAMA3EEN DELUXE’, where FL EX once again collaborates with Wingii in ‘GAYA MAAKO EZAY,’ in addition to his solo track ‘BALF.’ The EP solidifies the rapper’s ever-present witty lyricism, and MTM, as they ride a new wave of Egyptian rap.
