Messery Captures the Feeling of Being Lost on New Single 'La Machine’

Egyptian DJ and producer Messery turns the feeling of being lost in the existential loop of everyday life into an eclectic blend of electro and deep house on his latest single, ‘La Machine’.

Since emerging onto Cairo’s underground electronic scene in 2010, Mazen El Messery, better known as Messery, has carved out a distinct sonic identity across his productions and live sets. His sound draws from deep house, electro and minimal, with a clear affinity for the textures and sensibilities of the ’90s and ’00s. Over the years, he has performed at festivals across the region, including in Saudi Arabia and Jordan, while releasing on labels such as Outpunkt Records, Intelligent Sounds and Fratii.ro.

Finished earlier this year, ‘La Machine’ is less a conventional track than an attempt to bottle a feeling. A hypnotic deep house groove provides the foundation, threaded with sharp electro zips and punchy, analogue-style synth stabs that cut through its atmospheric framework. The melody deliberately avoids resolution, with each swell eventually folding back into itself, mirroring the experience of asking the same question over and over without ever finding an answer.

Even the title offers no explanation. ‘La Machine’ bears no particular connection to the feeling that inspired the track, and Messery admits he still cannot explain where it came from, leaving the release with one final unanswered question.
