Rap of the Week | April 7 - April 14
In our latest edition of 'Rap of the Week', we have standout new tunes from some of the region's top talents including Marwan Pablo, Mahdy Madness, Snor and Stormy.
Over the past week, the MENA hip-hop scene has seen a steady run of new releases, spanning classic trap sounds and more experimental approaches to rap’s subgenres. From Snor and Stormy to Marwan Pablo and Mahdy Madness, this week’s playlist is packed with picks from some of the region’s most exciting talents.
Our cover star this week is the Egyptian rapper Marwan Pablo, with ‘Awghad’ featuring the prolific producer, Hady Moamer, from his anticipated EP ‘5 NZAM’. The four-track record sees the Alexandria-born lyricist circling back to his signature trap foundation, but with a more refined edge that reasserts his status in the local rap scene. Meanwhile, Mahdy Madness comes through with a perfectly executed dark rap tune, ‘Phobia’ that showcases him in a solid form.
From the North Africa scene, Moroccan rapper Snor, who has been teasing a new album in the works over the past few months, links up with the fast-rising star Najm on ‘Evidemment’, while Stormy makes a return with ‘Chanel’, a punchy, melodic cut that highlights his unmistakable rapid-fire delivery.
