Tell them what you want to write and they'll press it onto your notebook by hand in gold letters, the way they have for nearly 100 years. Abdelzaher's has kept four generations of book binding by hand alive while the rest of the trade turned to machines.

So we sat down with Abdelzaher’s great-grandson and made our own.
