Day 6 Brings 13 Medals for Arab Nations at the Mediterranean Games

Mohab Ehab Hel Nasreldin powered to gold in the men’s 400m surface finswimming, clocking 3:01.17. He finished ahead of Italy’s Lorenzo Caronno, who took silver, with France’s Antonin Lebeau claiming bronze.

Tarek Hassan Elsa Hassan won the men’s 100m surface finswimming title in 34.44. He finished ahead of Greece’s Angelos Korompylis and Croatia’s Filip Strikinac to give Egypt another gold in finswimming.

Salma Rabeea Marz Raslan took silver in the women’s 50m bifins, clocking 22.17. She finished behind Italy’s Viola Magoga, who won in 21.91, and ahead of Greece’s Ioanna Tsalochu.

Mariam Mohamed Hel Hegab claimed silver in the women’s 50m apnea event with a time of 16.61. Greece’s Ifigeneia Teliousi won gold in 16.60, edging Hegab by just one hundredth of a second.

Ahmed Hesham Safw Radwan secured bronze in the men’s 100m bifins after clocking 42.84. Italy’s Filippo Pavoni won gold in 42.06, with Türkiye’s Emre Gurdenli taking silver.

Tarek Hassan, Renad Tamer, Yassin Farhat and Mariam Hegab reached the podium in the mixed 4x100m surface finswimming relay. The Egyptian team finished third in 2:34.77, behind Greece and Italy. Italy initially finished second, but France was later disqualified, confirming the Egyptian team’s bronze.

Mohamed Hossam Aly Abdelmoneim won bronze in the men’s -90kg boxing category. His run ended in the semifinals after Serbia’s Marko Pizurica won their bout 4-1, with the semifinal result securing Hossam a place on the podium.

Amine Zanaz claimed bronze in the men’s -55kg boxing category after losing 4-1 to Spain’s Rafael Lozano Serrano in the semifinals. Zanaz had reached the last four after defeating Morocco’s Issam Bensayar in the quarterfinals.

Abdelhak Nadir took bronze in the men’s -70kg boxing after falling 5-0 to Italy’s Gabriele Guidi Rontani in the semifinals. The result ended Nadir’s run at the last four but secured Morocco another podium finish in the boxing tournament.

Mounia Toutir secured bronze in the women’s -65kg boxing category after losing 4-1 to Türkiye’s Sema Çalışkan in the semifinals. Çalışkan’s experience and tactical control saw her through to the final, while Toutir left Taranto with a podium finish.

Yasmine Mouttaki earned bronze in the women’s -51kg boxing category after a 5-0 semifinal defeat to Spain’s Laura Fuertes Fernández. Mouttaki is a two-time African champion and a 2023 World Championships bronze medallist, adding another international podium to her résumé in Taranto.

Molka Ben Mabrouk secured bronze in the women’s -75kg boxing category after a closely fought 3-2 semifinal loss to Egypt’s Nabila Alaa Eddine. The Tunisian had already guaranteed herself a medal by reaching the last four and ultimately finished on the podium.
