The beauty internet requires remarkably little evidence to begin an investigation. A logo, a famous face and several seconds of unexplained footage will generally suffice.
Huda Beauty has supplied all three. In a cryptic new teaser, Cardi B appears before the brand’s logo and writes “Cardi” across it, effectively converting Huda Beauty into Cardi Beauty with the confidence of someone correcting a minor clerical error. The clip contains no product, launch date or explanation of what, precisely, the pair are doing together. Neither side has officially confirmed a makeup collection, leaving the usual possibilities: a campaign, a limited-edition drop or an elaborate exercise in making the internet lose composure.
A makeup collaboration would hardly be implausible. Cardi B possesses the maximalist instincts required for the assignment, while Huda Beauty has built an empire on products that seldom approach glamour timidly. For now, however, “Cardi Beauty” remains a few handwritten letters and a very effective provocation. The detectives have been summoned; the evidence has not.
