It’s time to reach for the stars. Egypt is building a new city dedicated to manufacturing satellites and performing research about space. Located at Kilo 6 on the Central Ring Road towards Suez, the development will be made up of 23 research, education and manufacturing buildings across 123 acres, four of which have already been fully built.
While we’re not likely to launch astronauts into space anytime soon, the Egyptian Space Agency has been establishing a solid foundation for space research not just in Egypt but across the entire continent of Africa, with Egypt set to host the headquarters of the African Space Agency. The pan-African cooperation is hoped to enrich lives throughout the continent through emergent technologies that would directly support projects on the ground, whether it’s by stimulating Africa’s agriculture or expanding their access to the internet.
