Egypt's Universal Healthcare System Could Cost EGP 360 Billion

The Egyptian government is expanding its universal healthcare initiative with an anticipated price tag of over EGP 360 billion. The Universal Healthcare Insurance System (UHIS) aims to provide health insurance coverage to all Egyptian citizens at an average cost of EGP 3,000 per person.

Having already rolled out across three governorates since 2019, UHIS looks to soon expand nationwide, according to the Ministry of Finance, with plans to increase healthcare spending another 15% in the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

International pharmaceutical companies have also signed agreements to support and supply Egypt's public health network.
