Egyptian National IDs Could Soon Include Organ Donation Preference
The initiative coincides with the Egyptian government’s efforts to establish the largest organ transplant centre in the Middle East.
National ID cards for Egyptian citizens may soon include a new field indicating their preference for organ donation and transplants. The initiative coincides with the Egyptian government’s efforts to establish the largest organ transplant centre in the Middle East. With the new field on their ID cards, citizens have the opportunity to declare their stance on organ donation when they may otherwise be too incapacitated to do so. The initiative is currently being researched, and the field would not constitute a permanent decision in case the deceased’s family refuses the procedure.
