House of Representatives Approves New Water Resources Law

The House of Representatives has approved a new Water Resources and Irrigation Law, aiming to finetune the management of water resources to achieve equal distribution.

The law seeks to protect national facilities against torrential rains, covered drainage networks of all forms, encroachments, and ultimately rationing the use of groundwater in order to preserve it for future generations.

Furthermore, the law will organise water distribution processes, protect the course of the Nile, and prohibit any construction work that negatively affects Egypt’s natural shorelines.

Finally, the law allows for the private sector to participate in the national effort to develop more sustainable methods to preserve Egypt’s water sources, as part of Egypt’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals in its Egypt Vision 2030 agenda.
