AED 1.046 Billion Desalination Plant Planned at Fujairah Port
The plant will be developed under a PPP model to support demand across Fujairah and surrounding areas.
Etihad Water and Electricity has signed an engineering, procurement and construction agreement valued at AED 1.046 billion to develop a desalination plant at the Port of Fujairah. The project will deliver a capacity of 60 million imperial gallons per day and include storage equivalent to 18 hours of production. The facility will be integrated with existing maritime and land infrastructure at the port.
The contract for the Fujairah I independent water producer project was awarded to NMDC Infra and Lantania Aguas, with delivery to be carried out through their joint platform Lantania NMDC Water. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Make it in the Emirates 2026.
Construction is expected to take around 30 months, covering civil works, system installation, and commissioning. Initial operations will begin at partial capacity before scaling up to full output.
Once operational, the plant will supply desalinated water to households, businesses, and industrial users in Fujairah and across Etihad Water and Electricity’s service areas, particularly during peak demand periods.
The project is the company’s second to be developed under a public-private partnership model, following the Naqa’a independent water producer project. It forms part of a broader strategy to expand water production using reverse osmosis technology aimed at improving energy efficiency.
