New Islamic Cultural Centre Houses World’s Largest Chandelier.
The newly inaugurated Islamic Cultural Center in the New Administrative Capital also features the world’s largest pulpit.
On the eve of the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Islamic Cultural Center in the New Administrative Capital - which houses Masjid Misr, one of the largest mosques in Africa - has just been inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Besides being the largest mosque on the continent, Masjid Misr has a capacity of nearly 130,000 worshippers, and has already broken three Guinness World Records for housing the world’s heaviest and largest chandelier, as well as the world’s largest pulpit. The chandelier weighs 50 tons and measures 22 metres in diameter, while the pulpit measures 16 metres tall.
The centre will provide a platform for Egyptians to learn more about Islamic history and culture while welcoming people from all over the world to explore and appreciate its rich traditions.
