Makkah Alliance Activates Collective Deterrence Measures
Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan agreed to activate collective deterrence measures following recent attacks on the Kingdom.
The Makkah Alliance for Defense has agreed to activate collective deterrence measures in response to recent attacks against Saudi Arabia, following an emergency meeting of its Strategic Political and Defense Committee in Riyadh.
The meeting brought together representatives from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, with Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman saying the session reaffirmed the three countries’ solidarity and unity.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the countries discussed what support could be provided for Saudi Arabia’s defence, alongside options for addressing the situation through dialogue. He added that work on the alliance’s institutional structure had reached its final stages, with discussions covering the secretariat as well as military, operational and technical matters.
The committee also appointed retired Pakistani Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood as the alliance’s first secretary-general for a three-year term.
The Makkah Joint Defense Agreement was signed in August 2026 by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, establishing a collective defence framework under which an armed attack on one member is considered an attack on all three.
