Abu Dhabi's Bus Stops Get a Colourful Makeover With Street Art Project
The project aims to transform a total of 40 bus stops by the end of March, with more than 20 already revamped.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport has launched a project to transform the city's bus shelters into vibrant works of art. Local street artists are wielding their creativity and transforming these mundane structures into eye-catching canvases, adding a splash of colour to the daily routines of commuters.
With over 20 bus shelters already boasting new looks, the project aims to revamp a total of 40 shelters by the end of March. The vivid designs are the result of approximately 840 hours of work by 13 local artists. The artistic makeover doesn't stop there, as a special project is underway for Ramadan, expected to start around March 11th. The ultimate goal is to expand the initiative beyond the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Each mural transforms a space into a platform for storytelling and community engagement. These artworks celebrate Abu Dhabi's diverse cultural heritage, featuring artwork that includes images of traditional clothing as well as patterns of falcons and turtles.
