Abu Dhabi Announces USD 817 Million Traffic Plan to Combat Congestion
The plan includes the 25 kilometre Mid-Island Parkway, a lengthy link connecting the mainland and islands of Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport has announced a USD 817 million (AED 3 billion) traffic improvement plan to ease congestion and reduce journey times in the city. The plan will include several significant projects, including new roads and bridges, which are hoped to enhance road traffic safety.
Part of the budget will go towards the 25 kilometre Mid-Island Parkway, connecting the mainland and island of Abu Dhabi with a four to five lane highway, vastly improving access to islands such as Al Sammaliyyah, Al Saadiya, Al Reem and Umm Yifienah.
The scale of the project requires that it be broken into two phases; the first will link Al Saadiyat and Umm Yifienah with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street and Al Reem Island, whilst the second phase will connect Umm Yifienah Island to Al Raha Beach as well as the major E10 road, Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street E20 and Madinat Zayed.
The plan also includes improvements to Musaffah Road E30 and Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street E20, as well as a new project at the Abu Dhabi - Al Ain intersection with Mohamed bin Zayed Street.
