International Festival of Traditional Games to Take Place in Riyadh
The festival will help visitors see the value of traditional games and participate in workshops to make time-tested toys.
These new-fangled video games on digital devices are all well and good, but what about the traditional games that brought people together throughout the centuries? From December 19th to the 25th, the International Festival of Traditional Games - organised by the Heritage Commission - will put a spotlight on the cultural legacy of recreation in Riyadh.
The festival will help visitors see the value of traditional games and participate in workshops to learn how to make time-tested toys and home decorations. There will be a crafts area featuring the handiwork of artisans from across Saudi Arabia and other participating nations.
There will also be a Year of the Camel pavilion, which will let people learn more about the cultural significance of camels in Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Culture will finalise the selection process for their camel studies grant, which gives researchers the opportunity to delve into the historical, economic and social significance of these creatures.
