National Theatre Festival Honours Egyptian Film 'The Brink of Dreams'
The Egyptian documentary recently won the prestigious L'Œil d'or for Best Documentary at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
The 17th National Theatre Festival will spotlight the acclaimed Egyptian documentary ‘The Brink of Dreams’ in a special panel discussion titled ‘Barsha Girls from Street Theatre in Minya to the Cannes Film Festival Award’.
Taking place on August 5th at the Supreme Council for Culture, the event will feature directors Nada Riyadh and Ayman El Amir, along with members of the film crew. ‘The Brink of Dreams’, produced by Felucca Films, follows a group of teenage girls from Upper Egypt as they challenge societal norms by performing in an all-female street theatre troupe. The documentary recently won the prestigious L'Œil d'or (Golden Eye Award) for Best Documentary at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This marks the first time an Egyptian film has received this honour. The film, which was shot over four years, captures the girls' journey from adolescence to adulthood as they confront significant life decisions and strive for independence in a male-dominated society. The panel discussion at the festival will delve into the film's journey from street theatre in Minya to international acclaim at Cannes.
