Pharaohs' Golden Parade Showcased at NMEC in Fustat

It feels like it was only just yesterday that the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade marched from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat, carrying with them the sacred mummified remains of 22 Ancient Egyptian kings and queens. The brilliant costumes, meticulously coordinated dance numbers and soul-lifting operatic musical performances stole the international spotlight on that April evening, which also marked the NMEC’s inauguration. Now the NMEC is celebrating the parade’s success with a special display.

The display showcases four of the costumes and several accessories that were worn during the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade, as well as the musical score alongside a conductor’s baton. The parade’s pieces can all be seen at the NMEC’s reception area, introducing visitors to explore the museum’s royal contents, which includes all 22 of the royal mummies that were transported during the parade, as well as hundreds of artefacts representing the full breadth of Egyptian history, from prehistoric times to the modern day.
