Saudi Actress Fatima Al-Banawi Makes Her Directorial Debut in ‘Basma’
Co-produced by Egyptian screenwriter Mohamed Hefzy, ‘Basma’ tells the story of a young woman who moves back in with her family after studying abroad.
Saudi Arabian actress Fatima Al-Banawi is making her filmmaking debut with ‘Basma’, a feature drama produced by Netflix and set to premiere on the streaming platform in 2024.
Co-produced by Egyptian screenwriter Mohamed Hefzy, ‘Basma’ tells the story of a 26 year old woman, portrayed by Al-Banawi, who tries living with her family again after studying abroad, while struggling with the stigma around mental health in the Arab world.
Al-Banawi is famously known for starring in Saudi film ‘Barakah Meets Barakah’ (2016) and Spanish-Saudi Arabian film ‘Champions’ (2021), as well as starring in Egyptian series ‘60 Daqeeqa’ (2021) and Lebanese series ‘Al Shakk’ (2020).
