‘The Tale of Daye’s Family’ Selected for Berlin Intl Film Festival
The Egyptian film is directed by Egypt’s Karim El Shennawy and stars Saudi actress Aseel Omran.
The 75th Berlin International Film Festival has selected Egyptian film 'The Tale of Daye's Family' for its official competition in the 'Generation' section.
Directed by Karim El Shenawy and written by Haitham Dabbour, the film stars Saudi actress Aseel Omran, Islam Mubarak, Badr Mohamed and Haneen Saeed, with guest appearances by Ahmed Helmy, Mohamed Shahin, Mohamed Mamdouh and Amina Khalil.
The film follows Daye, an 11-year-old Nubian albino boy with a strong voice, who travels from Aswan to Cairo with his family in order to compete in The Voice Kids. The film premiered at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, where it was well received by both critics and audiences.
The film, which marks Saudi actress Aseel Omran’s debut in Egyptian cinema, sees Omran play the role of an Upper Egyptian woman.
