UAE-Based Dubbing Platform CAMB.AI Raises $4 Million Seed Round

UAE-based dubbing company CAMB.AI has raised $4 million in a seed funding round led by New York venture capital firm Courtside Venture. The startup uses the latest in artificial intelligence (AI) technology to instantly dub any performance in over 100 languages, dialects and accents, incorporating the nuances of an actor’s voice and intonation into the dub track.

For many internationally successful films, particularly in India and East Asia, dubbing films is an important step to cater to global audiences. The process, however, can be arduous, time consuming, and prohibitively expensive for smaller studios, which must wait to see if their film will become successful before beginning the dubbing process; by the time it is completed, demand may have subsided.

In fewer than two years since founding CAMB.AI in 2022, CEO Avneesh Prakash and his son Akshat, who is CTO, have provided their dubbing technology to content with a combined viewership of more than 100 million views. Clients and testing partners include Major League Soccer, Tennis Australia and Canada’s Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. CAMB.AI was also used to dub Emirati director Nayla Al Khaja’s horror film ‘Three’, which debuted at Jeddah’s Red Sea Film Festival, making it the world’s first fully AI-dubbed multilingual feature length film.

The new funding will allow the startup to further develop its technology, and grow its operation into global markets. India, a land of over 700 languages, and other multilingual or multi-dialect countries, presents a huge opportunity for this sector, where dubbing could even be applied to live sports commentary and studio pundits.
