UAE-Based Khazna Will Establish $250 Million Data Centre in Egypt
Khazna is looking to expand into emerging markets in the MENA region following its merger with Abu Dhabi AI firm G42 in 2021.
Abu Dhabi-based Khazna Data Centres is expanding its operations in Egypt as part of its strategy to address the growing demand for data capacity in the MENA region. The company is set to build a new $250 million data centre with an expected capacity of 25 MW at Maadi Technology Park in Cairo, in collaboration with Cairo-based Benya Group.
“Egypt is sitting in a very good geographical location between Europe and the Middle East, sort of a gateway between East and West. A country like Egypt with a huge population has a lot of potential,” Khazna Data Centers’ CEO, Hassan Al Naqbi, told StartupScene.
The move comes as Khazna looks to expand into emerging markets in the MENA region and beyond, following its merger with Abu Dhabi AI firm G42 in 2021.
“Khazna's expansion in Egypt will have a substantial impact on attracting investments in high-density operations that support cloud systems and content operators, as well as encouraging major commercial companies to join a top-notch cloud complex,” Benya Group CEO and Chairman, Ahmed Mekky, told StartupScene.
Khazna currently operates 12 data centres across the UAE, with a planned total capacity of 300 MW, and aims to add another 12 over the next two years. The company's flagship facility in Abu Dhabi's Masdar City is set to open in July with a capacity of 15 MW, while a 21 MW data centre in Dubai Design District is scheduled to be operational in October.
The global data centre market is expected to grow by about 20% to $410.42 billion by 2027, up from an estimated $342.1 billion in 2023.
