10 Bus Rapid Transit Routes to Ease Traffic in Dubai, Sharjah & Ajman
A proposed bus network and a new federal highway are set to improve connectivity between key emirates.
A new public transport plan linking Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman has been reviewed, alongside a major federal highway project aimed at easing traffic congestion across the emirates.
The proposals were discussed during the first 2026 meeting of the UAE Infrastructure and Housing Council, chaired by Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.
The transport plan includes 10 dedicated-lane bus routes operating as Bus Rapid Transit systems, designed to provide faster and more reliable journeys through exclusive corridors. The network would connect directly to metro stations and major urban centres, with the aim of reducing reliance on private vehicles and improving commute times.
Work is also underway to strengthen links between Ajman and the Third and Fourth Federal Corridors, providing alternative routes and easing pressure on existing road networks.
The council reviewed the AED 6 billion Fourth Federal Corridor project, a planned 68-kilometre highway featuring six to eight lanes in each direction, 10 major intersections and four flyovers. The route is intended to integrate with broader development plans and expand the country’s network of federal highways.
The corridor would join three existing routes: the E11 Al Ittihad Road, E311 Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and E611 Emirates Road.
Officials also reviewed studies aimed at limiting the growth of vehicle numbers, as traffic volumes continue to rise. Proposed measures include expanding inter-emirate corridors, improving public transport integration and introducing additional mobility solutions.
