67 Egyptian Artefacts Have Been Recovered From Germany
The artefacts include a mummified foot and leg, two masks, and a collection of small shabti statues of the god Osiris.
In a ceremony at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, 67 Egyptian artefacts spanning various periods were formally handed over to a specialist committee from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities after being recovered from Germany.
Among the returned items are a mummified foot and leg, two masks, and two wall reliefs stolen from the tomb of Minister Pek An Ren Ef from the 26th Dynasty in Saqqara. Most of the recovered pieces are small shabti statues of the god Osiris, traditionally placed in tombs to serve the deceased in the afterlife.
This recovery reflects an ongoing collaboration between the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, supported by Egypt’s diplomatic missions worldwide, to reclaim artefacts smuggled abroad.
