AED 150 Million Bridge & Ring Road Expansion Approved in Sharjah
University City Bridge will be expanded to four lanes and a new bridge by the Martyrs' Monument will link Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa Street to Maliha Road.
A AED 150 million infrastructure package has been approved in Sharjah to upgrade key road links and reduce congestion on major routes. The projects focus on improving traffic flow along Mleiha Road and strengthening transport connectivity around University City & the Etihad Rail station. The first component covers the expansion of a five-kilometre stretch of Sharjah Ring Road, including widening the University City Bridge to four lanes — two in each direction. The area is a known bottleneck on Mleiha Road, and the upgrade aims to ease pressure at peak travel times. A second project will see a new bridge built near the Martyrs’ Monument, funded at AED 60 million. The bridge will connect Mleiha Road with Mohamed bin Zayed Road, while also improving access for traffic coming from Sheikh Khalifa Street. Officials noted that the structure will be designed to meet both functional & aesthetic requirements for the surrounding area.
