Absher Introduces Passport Issuance for Adopted Family Members

The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has introduced a new electronic service on the Absher platform, allowing the head of a Saudi family to obtain a passport for an adopted family member.

The process involves logging into Absher, selecting family member services, applying for the foster families program, completing the required information, agreeing to the declaration, and submitting the application. The service aims to simplify passport issuance and enable citizens to complete the process electronically.

Eligibility criteria for adoption include specific conditions that must be met. The adopting family must be Saudi nationals, and the household must consist of a married couple, with the wife’s age not exceeding 50. A woman may adopt a child alone only under necessary circumstances. A medical examination is required to confirm that family members are free of contagious and infectious diseases.

Additionally, the number of children in the household under six years old must not exceed three. The foster family's record of good conduct and behavior must be verified, and a social research assessment must confirm the family's ability to provide adequate social, psychological, and economic care for the child.
