Abu Dhabi Makes Arabic Lessons Mandatory in Nursery & Kindergarten

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has introduced a policy mandating structured Arabic language classes for all children in Pre-KG to KG2 across private and charter nurseries, starting in Fall 2025. Weekly instruction will total four hours, increasing to five hours from the 2026–27 academic year.

ADEK says the initiative aims to strengthen students’ language skills, cultural identity, and confidence by supporting both native and non-native Arabic speakers. The curriculum will include age-appropriate learning methods, such as songs, play, storytelling, and interactive activities.

Two tracks will be offered: one tailored for native Arabic speakers to deepen their mother-tongue proficiency, and another designed to support non-native learners in Arabic acquisition. Trained teachers will use modern teaching methods and regular communication with parents to reinforce learning at home.
