Abu Dhabi Police Unveil AI-Powered Self-Driving Patrol Car
The vehicle utilizes computer vision and advanced criminal behavior monitoring technology including facial recognition software.
Abu Dhabi Police unveiled a next-generation, AI-powered self-driving patrol vehicle at the 2024 GITEX World exhibition. Developed in collaboration with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, the initiative aligns with the police force's strategy to enhance security and public safety through the integration of cutting-edge technology into policing.
The autonomous vehicle's standout feature is its integration of advanced smart technologies, including cloud-based storage for audio, video and data. Its digital cockpit improves user interaction, while generative AI, computer vision and criminal behavior monitoring systems enable real-time facial recognition and license plate scanning.
Engineered to navigate challenging terrains, the vehicle, which can accommodate up to six people, boasts advanced off-road capabilities and is powered by a hybrid engine that runs on both fuel and battery, supporting silent, covert operations. It is also water-resistant, enabling it to cross bodies of water without damage.
The patrol vehicle’s modular design allows for mission-specific customization, and its wireless communication system facilitates seamless coordination with an onboard reconnaissance drone.
