Abu Drops New Track 'Sammem' for Cairo Design Week
‘Sammem’ serves as a fitting anthem for CDW
As Cairo Design Week (CDW) approaches its highly anticipated second edition, Cairo is abuzz with excitement. Amidst the preparations for this vibrant celebration of design, Egyptian singer Abu has released a new song titled ‘Sammem,’ a clever play on the Arabic word, which means both ‘designer’ and ‘determined’.
‘Sammem’ serves as a fitting anthem for CDW, capturing the spirit of passion and dedication that permeates the event. With its melodic tunes and evocative lyrics, the song resonates with the journey of designers who pour their hearts and souls into their creations, striving to shape a better and more aesthetically pleasing world.
"I'm so happy with this track because it's promoting an incredible local project with global standards, I expect Cairo Design Week will be competing with Milano Design Week soon enough," AbuMusic told CairoScene.
From February 23rd to March 2nd, 2024, CDW will transform iconic districts, including Downtown Cairo, the Citadel, Heliopolis, Maadi and Zamalek, into a creative wonderland. This year, the event promises an even more immersive experience, featuring a plethora of exhibitions, awe-inspiring installations, and cultural events that unite designers and artists in their shared commitment to their craft and the city they call home.
Some of Egypt’s biggest designers - and their firms - are participating, including Kari Mekhtigian, Amr Helmy, Tamer Mahdy, Karim El Hayawan, Shosha AboulKheir, Mohamed Badr, Nourhan and Dayana Kanjo, Nehal Leheta, Mai Galal and Ahmad Fayyad.
Each participating district will offer a unique showcase of contemporary Egyptian design, blending modernity with Cairo’s rich heritage.
