Ahmed Shawky Becomes President of Critics Jury at Berlin Film Festival
Shawky will lead the largest annual jury, overseeing 12 international critics judging films across festival sections.
The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) has named renowned Egyptian film critic Ahmed Shawky as President of the Critics Jury at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, which will take place from February 13th to the 23rd, 2025.
Shawky will lead the largest jury committee organised annually by FIPRESCI, overseeing 12 international critics judging films across various festival sections. This jury, organised by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), is the largest critics' committee assembled annually to evaluate films across multiple festival sections.
In addition to his role as jury president, he will also be part of the international competition jury, alongside critics Maja Korbecka from Poland and Francisca Romero Pezoa from Chile.
Ahmed Shawky has served as artistic director of the Cairo International Film Festival and contributed extensively to major film publications. His work as a writer, researcher and festival programmer has helped shape contemporary film discourse in the region.
