Ancient Egyptian Treasures Arrive in Shanghai for Landmark Exhibition

A grand showcase of ancient Egyptian history will soon take place in China as 787 precious artifacts from seven prominent Egyptian museums make their way to the Shanghai Museum. Accompanied by recent archaeological finds from Saqqara, the collection will be featured in the upcoming exhibition titled ‘On Top of the Pyramid: Exhibition of the Civilization of Ancient Egypt’.

After a ceremonial inauguration on July 18th, the exhibition will officially welcome the public on July 19th. Among the highlights are notable artifacts such as a colossal statue of Akhenaten, and a human-shaped sarcophagus from the Saqqara Ole site - which will see its debut at the Shanghai Museum - as well as pieces like Tutankhamun's statues, Amenemhat III's treasures, Ramses II's artifacts, and a complete assortment of mummy coffins.

‘On Top of the Pyramid: Exhibition of the Civilization of Ancient Egypt’ will run until August 17th, 2025.
