Biggest Egyptian Delegation Heads to 2024 Paris Olympics This Summer
142 Egyptian athletes have already qualified for this year’s Games, with the final total expected to go over 150.
Egypt is set to send its largest ever delegation of athletes to this year’s Summer Olympic Games in Paris, as the country’s sportsmen and women aim to exceed the record medal haul of three years ago in Tokyo.
In 2021, Egypt sent 132 athletes to the Tokyo Summer Games, winning six total medals - one gold, one silver, and four bronze. This year, 142 athletes have already qualified for Paris across 21 different sports, with the final total expected to go over 150.
Egypt’s Olympic committee also continues to build its credentials as a potential host of the Summer Games in 2036, although the final decision on whether to launch a bid for the games - potentially the first in Africa - is still tentative. The country has spent billions of dollars developing facilities, stadiums, and dedicated sports cities, including the Egypt International Olympic City in the New Administrative Capital, which is planned to have a 93,000-capacity stadium and 21 other sports facilities.
