CAPMAS: Egypt’s Livestock Production Rose by 6.7% in 2024
CAPMAS attributed the overall growth to government efforts to enhance food security.
Egypt’s livestock and dairy sectors recorded strong growth in 2024, according to new data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS). The total number of live livestock, including cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, and camels, reached around 8.1 million, up from 7.6 million in 2023, marking a 6.7% increase.
Beef production rose by 16% to 754,000 tons, while raw milk output climbed 15.7% to 6.6 million tons. Poultry production also saw an 11% increase, reaching 2.4 million tons, and egg production grew slightly by 1.4%, totaling 16.6 billion eggs.
The number of slaughtered livestock rose to 4.4 million in 2024, up from 4.2 million the previous year. Honey production was the only category to decline, falling slightly to 3,700 tons from 3,800 tons in 2023.
CAPMAS attributed the overall growth to government efforts to enhance food security through improved breeding programs, veterinary services, and agricultural practices.
