Cairo Public Transport Authority Extends Operating Hours for Ramadan

Cairo’s Public Transport Authority has announced an adjusted operating schedule for Ramadan 2026, introducing extended night services, staggered morning departures, and special Mosque services to accommodate shifting travel patterns throughout the month.

Morning public transport operations will be modified to reflect later official working hours. 50% of bus services will continue to operate at their regular hours, beginning at 5:30 AM, while the other 50% will depart gradually until 8:30 AM to account for delayed morning peak hours. Buses will continue operating for ten consecutive hours throughout the day.

Evening and post-Iftar public transport services will be significantly extended, particularly on routes to and from major religious sites frequently visited during Ramadan. These include Sayyida Zeinab, Sayyida Aisha, Imam Al-Shafi’i, Imam Al-Laythi, Al-Azhar al-Sharif, the Sayyidna Al-Hussein Mosque, and the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque. On these routes, departures will continue until midnight, with services reaching the outskirts of the city after 1:00 AM.

A regular night service will also operate daily throughout Ramadan from 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM to cover religious, commercial, and tourist areas. In addition, the operating hours of about 65% of minibus routes will be extended to better connect residential areas to religious districts and commercial areas.

To ensure service reliability, the Public Transport Authority will launch a 24-hour monitoring and emergency response system. This system will be equipped with tow trucks, cranes, breakdown rescue vehicles, and specialised personnel to respond to incidents throughout the month.
