Court Fines Ad Producers for Unlicensed Use of Abdel Halim Hafez Song

The Economic Court has ordered the producers of the 2024 commercial 'Doqo El‑Shamasi' to pay EGP 500,000 in damages to the heirs of singer Abdel Halim Hafez.

The ruling came after the court found that the ad used Hafez’s music without obtaining legal clearance, resulting in both financial and reputational harm to the late artist’s estate.

Yasser Qantoush, legal counsel for the Abdel Halim Hafez's family, said the verdict underscores the need to respect intellectual property rights and obtain proper licensing for creative works.
