Desalinated Seawater Production Reaches 50% Across Saudi Arabia

In a move aligned with Vision 2030, desalinated seawater production in Saudi Arabia has significantly increased, now accounting for 50% of the nation’s water supply, up from 44% in 2022. 

According to the General Authority for Statistics’ latest Water Accounts report, the Kingdom saw a 31% surge in desalinated water production in 2023. This advancement is part of a broader effort to ensure water security and meet the growing demand driven by population growth and economic development.

The report also highlighted a notable reduction in the agricultural sector's consumption of non-renewable groundwater, which decreased by 7% since 2022. 

The Kingdom's focus on expanding desalination capacity is bolstered by investments in cutting-edge technologies and infrastructure, aiming to enhance the efficiency and environmental sustainability of water production. These efforts are crucial in mitigating the challenges posed by water scarcity and ensuring the long-term resilience of Saudi Arabia's water supply system.
