Dubai to Issue Learner's Passport to Track Newborns' Education
These passports are meant to ensure educational enrollment of newborns, and support parents in making informed choices.
Dubai has announced a new initiative to issue learner’s passports for every newborn, in order to track their educational journey. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) revealed this plan during the presentation of 'Education Strategy 2033', in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority.
The Learning Passport is designed to guarantee every child's right to education. It will register children of mandatory school age and monitor their enrollment in schools. This system will help identify children who have not enrolled in school by the compulsory education age, prompting timely action to secure their education. The passport will enter a child into the system upon birth, providing insights into available educational stages and nurseries.
The KHDA highlighted that Emirati children's enrollment in early childhood centers is below the global average, which can hinder their growth and academic success. With studies finding that 90% of a child's brain develops between zero to five years old, this initiative focuses on critical early stages that influence future performance.
