A Saudi-drafted resolution on women's empowerment in cybersecurity has been unanimously adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council during its 62nd session.
Submitted by Saudi Arabia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, the resolution seeks to increase women's participation in the cybersecurity sector by supporting skills development, professional advancement and leadership opportunities. It also aims to help address the global cybersecurity skills gap and strengthen cyber resilience.
The resolution builds on the global Women Empowerment in Cybersecurity initiative launched by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. According to Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organisations in Geneva, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, the measure reflects the Kingdom's commitment to international cooperation, technical assistance and capacity building while respecting national priorities.
Implementation of the Women Empowerment in Cybersecurity initiative is overseen by the Global Cybersecurity Forum Institute, which also manages the Child Protection in Cyberspace initiative in partnership with specialised United Nations agencies and other international organisations.
