Local mobile phone production in Egypt is set to reach 9 million units in 2025, up from 3.5 million last year, according to Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat. Fourteen factories now operate in the country, including facilities for four of the five most popular brands. Export plans are expected to begin next year following current market tests.
Talaat also highlighted progress in Egypt’s artificial intelligence strategy. The first phase (2019–2024) saw Egypt climb 46 places in global AI readiness rankings. A second five-year strategy launched this year focuses on expanding computing infrastructure for government and startups, and strengthening data governance to safeguard privacy and regulate data use.
