Egypt Petroleum Ministry Announces Domestic Energy Supply Strategy
Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum announced a series of measures to secure natural gas and petroleum supply following US-Israel attack on Iran.
Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced a series of proactive measures to secure domestic energy supplies, including natural gas and petroleum products in light of regional developments following the US-Israel attack on Iran today, February 28th.
The ministry said its emergency plans “account for disruptions caused by military strikes and interruptions of gas supplies from the Eastern Mediterranean”.
It highlighted that Egypt benefits from diversified supply sources and ready alternative capacities. Throughout 2025, the ministry secured additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to meet the needs of electricity, industry, and households through:
1- Diversifying domestic and international gas supply sources.
2- Signing LNG shipments and long-term agreements with global companies.
3- Establishing an integrated gas reception infrastructure and operating regasification vessels to enhance flexibility and rapid response to supply changes.
The ministry added that these measures are complemented by efforts to boost domestic production through timely payments to partners to support exploration and production activities.
Regarding petroleum products, the ministry confirmed steps to increase availability and build strategic reserves of gasoline, diesel, and cooking gas, including:
1- Raising domestic production rates at Egyptian refineries.
2- Implementing regular maintenance programs for optimal operational efficiency.
3- Optimizing the use of large, geographically distributed storage facilities and tanks nationwide.
4- Maintaining safe reserves of imported products to support market stability and meet continuous demand.
The ministry concluded its statement by emphasizing round-the-clock monitoring of the situation and all developments to enable decisive action to safeguard national energy security.
