Egypt’s Net Intl Reserves Reach Record $52.7 Billion in February

Egypt’s net international reserves reached a record $52.7 billion at the end of February 2026, according to the Central Bank of Egypt. The figure represents a 0.28% increase from $52.59 billion recorded previously, equivalent to a rise of $151.7 million.

The latest data extends an upward trend in reserve levels that has been observed since March 6th, 2024. On that date, the Central Bank of Egypt introduced a set of corrective economic measures that included a 6% interest rate increase.

The steps were designed to curb inflation, stabilise domestic prices, and strengthen foreign currency liquidity in order to encourage inflows such as remittances.

During February, Egypt also secured additional financing through agreements with the International Monetary Fund.

The IMF approved an $8 billion Extended Fund Facility alongside a $1.3 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility. The approval unlocked approximately $2.27 billion in new financing.

Egypt is able to immediately draw around $2 billion under the Extended Fund Facility and $273 million under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, bringing total disbursements under the programme to roughly $5.2 billion, equivalent to 190.7% of Egypt’s IMF quota.

Economic indicators also showed easing inflation and improvements in external balances. Annual inflation declined to 11.9% in January 2026, while the current account deficit narrowed to 4.2% of gross domestic product.

The government has set a target of achieving 7.5% economic growth by 2030, supported by export expansion, investment in human capital, and a greater role for the private sector. In 2025, the private sector secured $2.9 billion—around EGP 136.5 billion—in financing, representing approximately 65% of total investments.
