Egypt's Sports System to Undergo Overhaul Following Paris Olympics
Key actions include a legal audit of expenditures and support for federations that achieved unexpected success.
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has mandated a review of all sports federations following Egypt's performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Egyptian presidency announced plans to evaluate the financial allocations to federations, ensuring future funding is tied to performance outcomes.
Key actions include a legal audit of expenditures, support for federations that achieved unexpected success, and disciplinary measures for those whose members harmed Egypt's sports reputation. Additionally, federations will reduce participation in sports where Egypt lacks a competitive edge, focusing instead on promising athletes.
A new athlete selection system will be implemented, and the number of technical and administrative staff for Olympic missions will be reduced. Relevant authorities will draft a plan for future Olympic participation, which will be presented to the Cabinet.
