Egypt to Face Ethiopia in World Cup Qualifier This Friday

The Egyptian national football team is set to resume its 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign with an away match against Ethiopia on Friday, March 22nd, in Morocco. The team will then return home for a clash against Sierra Leone on March 25th.

Head coach Hossam Hassan has called up a 27-man squad, featuring Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, despite the ongoing English Premier League season. Meanwhile, Zamalek defender Ahmed Fatouh has been ruled out due to a knee injury, and Emam Ashour, currently the Egyptian Premier League’s top scorer, was also left out of the selection.

Egypt currently leads Group A with 10 points, followed by Guinea-Bissau with six points. The Pharaohs last qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 2018, and a strong showing in these qualifiers could bring them closer to securing a place in the 2026 tournament.
