The Cabinet has approved the legalisation of 238 unlicensed churches alongside their affiliated buildings, bringing the total up to 2,401.
The Egyptian government made it mandatory to submit reconciliation requests for unlicensed buildings in 2020, or else risk demolition.
After the deadline for submission came into effect in March 2021, the government received 2,780,471 reconciliation requests overall, mostly from Cairo, Giza, Beheira, Sharqia, Menoufia and Qalyubia.
