Egyptian Government Denies Reports of IMF Loan Tranche Increase
In a statement issued by the Cabinet, authorities clarified that reports that it requested a loan increase are inaccurate.
The Egyptian government has denied recent media reports claiming that it requested the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to raise the fourth tranche of its loan programme from USD 1.3 billion to USD 2 billion.
The reports, which emerged on November 12th, suggested that Egypt had sought an increase in the upcoming fourth instalment of its loan package. In a statement issued by the Cabinet’s media centre, the government emphasised that there has been no such request made to the IMF, dismissing the claims as part of an attempt to spread misinformation. The media centre urged outlets to verify their sources before publishing, stressing the importance of accurate reporting to prevent the dissemination of misleading information among the public.
