Film Commission & Sony Open Virtual Production Platform at JAX Film St

The Saudi Film Commission has launched a new virtual production platform at JAX Film Studios in Riyadh, developed in collaboration with Sony and Pixomondo. The facility introduces cutting-edge on-set virtual production workflows to the Kingdom’s capital and is now fully operational.

Equipped with integrated camera tracking, real-time processing, and in-camera visual effects (ICVFX) capabilities, the platform allows filmmakers to create photorealistic environments in controlled studio settings. By aligning live capture with real-time rendering, the system streamlines production pipelines and expands the creative possibilities for filmmakers working in Saudi Arabia.

The collaboration with Sony and Pixomondo centres on the deployment and operation of this technology within JAX Film Studios, Riyadh’s newest cinematic production hub. The Film Commission describes the platform as part of its broader strategy to strengthen the Kingdom’s film production infrastructure, supporting projects that require immersive, real-time environments rendered directly in camera.

According to the Commission, the platform’s launch marks a major step in enhancing Riyadh’s film ecosystem, offering local and international productions access to advanced virtual production tools within a single, purpose-built complex.
